Women in Science & Engineering
UA – WiSE (University of Alberta – Women in Science and Engineering)
UA-WiSE is an ongoing learning and support group for all women in the fields of science and engineering. Meetings and events are attended by undergraduates, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, academic and technical staff from the university. Students and staff from other post secondary institutions and high schools and women in industry are also very welcome.
WISER (Women in Science, Engineering, and Research)
WISER is a sub-community of the University of Alberta’s WISEST program aimed at serving the needs of early-career professionals. The WISER Network is designed to connect early-career women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with each other and with the information, resources, support, and professional development opportunities they require to advance in their careers.
Canadian Women in Science
Canadian women have been active participants in a broad spectrum of scientific endeavour for several hundred years. Sixty-four years ago, actress Hedy Lamarr, an Austrian-born movie star who’d met Hitler, was awarded a patent for radio technology intended to help American torpedoes blow up German ships.
