Program Effectiveness
Is It Effective?
A research program was designed to assess the overall effectiveness of the mentoring model to meet the program objectives for mentors and their matches. Participation in the research program was on a voluntary basis. Key research questions included whether the Cybermentor program has helped participants with course and career decisions, and the present and past mentoring experiences of the mentors and how they have been able to work through career, and family choices.
In general, findings indicate that the young girls who are participating in the program are typically high achieving and have strong interests in science. Most expect to pursue careers in related areas and feel they will benefit from participating in the Cybermentor program. Interview data from mentors indicates a strong commitment to the program and a wide variety of views on mentoring, personal influences on career choice and adult life roles.
